Dhaka: BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim today warned of an impending economic disaster if an elected government does not take office soon. Speaking at a human chain program in the Dhanmondi area of the city, Asim emphasized the urgent need for political stability to prevent economic turmoil.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the human chain was organized by the BNP, its affiliated organizations, and citizens from the Dhaka-10 parliamentary constituency. The protest aimed to demand modernization of the traffic system to alleviate congestion and to call for the removal of unauthorized and unfit vehicles from city streets.

Barrister Asim highlighted the adverse impact of the current political situation on investment, both domestic and foreign, stating that investors feel unsafe under the present circumstances. He urged the interim government to conclude the 17-year long movement with a neutral election, expressing hope that if the BNP forms the government, it would address the citizens’ needs comprehensively.

Addressing public grievances, Asim criticized the state of the city’s roads and vehicle fitness. He pointed out that despite a high number of cars, many are not roadworthy, and infrastructure development is lagging. He warned that taxpayers would withhold payments if civic services did not improve, stressing that the state should not operate under such conditions.

The event was moderated by Kazi Masud, the former president of the Dhaka College Chhatra Dal, and featured participation from senior party members including Kibria Lucky, Dr. Reza Faisal, Abu Naser Liton, Md. Dila, Abdus Sattar, and Amir Husein.
