Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today stated there is no possibility of re-emerging of the ‘bloodthirsty and democracy-destroying fascism’ of Sheikh Hasina in the country. He emphasized that Sheikh Hasina’s attempts to remain in power by undermining democracy were evident and that her goals were to maintain power permanently through oppressive means.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these remarks while addressing journalists at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, the capital. He expressed that the people of Bangladesh are both religious and democracy-loving, making it impossible for them to succumb to any new form of fascism. Rizvi criticized Sheikh Hasina’s alleged past actions, referring to telephonic conversations that he claimed were terrifying, where orders to shoot were allegedly given. These conversations, he said, have now been presented as evidence in the International Crimes Tribunal, painting a horrifying picture of past governance.

Rizvi further alleged that those who stood against the then government and advocated for democratic politics faced severe threats and consequences, including death threats. He recounted witnessing Sheikh Hasina’s alleged acts of barbarism, including remand, imprisonment, and inhuman torture, asserting that the evidence being presented in court reveals an even more daunting reality.

He concluded by urging the people of Bangladesh to learn from the country’s past experiences and struggles for democracy. Rizvi called for these lessons to be used to guide the nation towards a peaceful, stable, and democratic future.
