Over 8 Lakh Children in Narayanganj to Receive Typhoid Vaccine

Narayanganj: Over 8 lakh 10 thousand children in Narayanganj district are set to receive the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) as part of the government’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). This initiative was announced during a workshop aimed at raising awareness about typhoid vaccination, held at the Narayanganj Press Club.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop was organized by the District Information Office, with Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dr. AFM Mashiur Rahman attending as the chief guest. District Information Officer Mohammad Kamruzzaman chaired the event, and other notable attendees included Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communication Fahima Jahan, Deputy Director of the District Family Planning Department Shahidul Islam, President of Narayanganj Press Club Abu Saud Masud, and General Secretary Afzal Hossain Ponty.



A 2019 health survey indicated that approximately 4,78,000 individuals were infected with typhoid in Bangladesh, resulting in 8,000 deaths, 68 percent of whom were children. In response, the government is implementing a vaccination program targeting 810,000 children in Narayanganj. This includes 216,146 children within the City Corporation and 593,646 children throughout the rest of the district.



To receive the vaccine, registration must be completed via the website (https://vaxepi.gov.bd) using a 17-digit birth certificate number. Civil Surgeon Dr. AFM Mashiur Rahman stated that the nationwide target is to vaccinate around five crore children, with vaccinations in Narayanganj beginning on October 12. The district will see vaccinations conducted in 2,167 schools and 1,056 temporary centers, with the process occurring in two phases over 18 days.
