Dhaka: A metropolitan court today sent the former mayor of Patuakhali municipality, Mohiuddin Ahmed, to jail in connection with the murder case of Hafez Md Masudur Rahman in Badda Thana. Metropolitan Magistrate Juwel Rana issued the order following a petition submitted by the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Inspector ANM Nuruzzaman of the Detective Branch, who is the IO of the case, reported to the court that during the remand period, Mohiuddin Ahmed disclosed significant information related to the Masud murder case. The IO recommended that Mohiuddin remain in jail until the investigation is concluded to verify this information.
Mohiuddin was apprehended by a team from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) in the Dhanmondi area on September 23. He was subsequently placed on a four-day police remand by a metropolitan magistrate court on September 24.
The case details reveal that Hafez Md Masudur Rahman was injured by police firing on the Badda link road during an anti-discrimination students’ movement on July 19 of the previous year. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A murder case related to this incident was filed with the Badda police on November 9 last year.
