Dhaka: Autumn Festival 1432 was celebrated at Dhaka University with an appeal to revive and conserve nature. Shororitu Udzapon Jatiya Porshod (Six Seasons Celebration National Council) organized the festival at the Bokultola of the Fine Arts faculty, highlighting the cultural significance of Bangla seasons. The event was presided over by the council's convener, Ehsan Mahmud, and attended by eminent poets, litterateurs, and cultural personalities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the festival featured speakers such as Faruk Wasif, Director General (DG) of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), Mohammad Azam, DG of Bangla Academy, and Latiful Islam Shibli, Executive Director of Nazrul Institute. They were joined by Abu Sayeed Khan, editor of Amader Shomoy newspaper and a valiant freedom fighter. Member Secretary Dipanto Rayhan delivered the welcome speech, while poets like Saif Bari and Mridul Mahbub participated in poetry recitations.
PIB DG Faruk Wasif remarked on the rarity of festivals in the city and the arrival of autumn, emphasizing cultural coexistence and harmony. Bangla Academy DG Mohammad Azam described autumn as a hopeful season, noting its cultural significance even in urban settings. Latiful Islam Shibli reflected on the youth's sacrifices and the symbolism of autumn flowers, urging for continued resistance against fascism.
The speakers also highlighted the importance of environmental awareness due to the decline of Kash flowers, emphasizing nature as a cornerstone of Bangla literature, culture, and arts. The festival concluded with cultural performances, including songs by Kohinur Akter Golapi and Sagar Baul's troupe, along with a dance by Rachel Prianka.
