New york: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will address the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session here tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the session is scheduled to commence at 9am local time in New York, with Professor Yunus slated to be the 10th speaker of the day. His speech is anticipated to cover significant topics such as the interim government's reform initiatives, the aspirations stemming from the July 2024 mass uprising, and the commitment to conducting free, fair, and inclusive elections by February 2026. Additionally, Professor Yunus is expected to address the trial for the July massacre as well as the ongoing Rohingya issue.
Earlier, during a briefing, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that Professor Yunus will use the platform to inform the international community about the reforms undertaken by the Bangladesh interim government over the past 14 months, alongside the country's economic recovery. Alam emphasized that the Chief Adviser will highlight initiatives aimed at ensuring Bangladesh's democratic transition.
"The main message is that a fundamental election is going to be held within February 15 (next year). It will be a free, fair, peaceful, credible and festive one," Alam remarked.
