New york: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to address the General Debate of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, with his speech taking place between 9:00pm and 01:00am Bangladesh time. His address will be broadcast live on BTV, BTV News, and Bangladesh Betar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the UNGA session will commence at 9am local time in New York, with Professor Yunus slated to speak as the 10th speaker. His address is expected to cover significant topics such as the interim government's reform initiatives, the aspirations stemming from the July 2024 mass uprising, and a strong commitment to conducting free and fair elections in February 2026. Additionally, he will address the trial for the July massacre and the ongoing Rohingya issue.
Earlier, during a briefing, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam highlighted that Professor Yunus will use this opportunity to inform the international community about the reforms undertaken by the Bangladesh interim government over the past 14 months, as well as the country's economic recovery. Alam further mentioned that the Chief Adviser will emphasize the steps taken towards Bangladesh's democratic transition, underscoring the importance of the upcoming 'fundamental election' slated to be held by February 15 next year. "It will be a free, fair, peaceful, credible and festive one," Alam asserted.
