Khulna: The Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Divisional Commissioner, Md Firoz Sarkar, emphasized the urgent need for a massive tree plantation initiative to counteract pollution. He addressed the issue of environmental degradation, attributing it to human activities and underscored the connection between climate change and daily life.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Firoz Sarkar made these remarks during a daylong workshop titled ‘Environmental Conservation and Measures to Address Climate Change’. The event took place in the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Khulna and was organized by the Khulna Divisional Administration in collaboration with the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
The workshop was chaired by Professor Dr. Shah Alam, Director of the National University’s Khulna Regional Center, with Abu Sayeed Md. Monzur Alam, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development), delivering the welcome speech. Special addresses were made by Md. Ariful Islam, Deputy Director of Local Government at the Khulna DC Office; Md. Sadikul Islam, Director of the Department of Environment; and Md. Anisuzzaman Sikder, Director of the Islamic Foundation. Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeq Ahmad, Deputy Managing Director of PKSF, presented the keynote paper.
During the workshop, it was disclosed that PKSF has completed 38 projects aimed at climate adaptation and environmental management, with 12 more projects currently underway in Bangladesh’s vulnerable coastal belt. The event saw participation from government officials, NGO representatives, teachers, civil society members, and religious leaders.
