Dhaka: The Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs (ACCEA) has approved the procurement proposal for approximately 40,000 body-worn cameras for police to enhance security at voting booths during the upcoming general election. The decision was made during the 31st meeting of the ACCEA at the Cabinet Division, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salehuddin informed reporters that the procurement process for the body cameras will be managed through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He emphasized the urgency, stating, “The police will be given 40,000 body cameras during the national parliamentary election. The proposal to buy these cameras has been approved. They must be brought in quickly.”
Salehuddin further explained that procuring through UNDP guarantees both quality and price certainty for the equipment. He assured that utilizing UNDP’s services means the government would not have to engage in negotiations with any other party regarding the purchase.
