Seminar on Climate Security and Energy Resilience Concludes in Bangladesh

Dhaka: A seminar focused on climate security and energy resilience came to a close today, marking the end of a significant event jointly organized by the Australian Defence Force and Bangladesh Armed Forces. This seminar formed part of the initial phase of the Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE)-2025, held at Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker in Kurmitola.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar aimed to develop integrated strategies to address climate change risks in the defense and security sectors while determining sustainable energy management approaches. Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, the Assistant Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force, attended the event as the chief guest. He highlighted climate change and the energy crisis as major security concerns, stating that these issues pose threats not only to the environment but also to national and regional security.



Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle emphasized the importance of such activities for enhancing peace, stability, and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. She noted the deepening defense cooperation between Australia and Bangladesh and expressed optimism about the seminar’s potential to boost the partnership between the two nations.



The seminar also featured participation from the Air Commander of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker, senior armed forces officers, and university students. Technical sessions included expert discussions on climate change impacts, the use of environment-friendly fuels in military operations, and the potential for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the defense sector. The discussions also covered technological innovation, energy efficiency improvements, and the importance of international cooperation.



Speakers underscored the necessity for the defense sector to coordinate efforts in addressing climate change risks and prioritizing renewable energy usage. Participants shared new ideas and effective strategies to enhance energy resilience in both military and civil aviation sectors. The Bangladesh Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to overcoming future challenges through regional cooperation and emphasized its dedication to adopting innovative technologies and adhering to global standards, as stated in the ISPR release.
