Dhaka: The government has allocated 16,495 tonnes of rice for 32,990 mandaps ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja across the country, an official press release announced today. The disaster management and relief ministry sanctioned the food grains, ensuring each mandap receives 500 kg of rice.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision involves distributing the allocated rice to deputy commissioners (DCs) or administrative heads of different districts. These officials are tasked with distributing the rice to the mandap managements within their jurisdictions.
An official familiar with the process revealed that the deputy commissioners have been instructed to allocate the grains through upazila administrations. The allocation will consider the number, size, scale, financial capacity, and needs of the mandap and temples managements in their respective districts.
Furthermore, the DCs have been advised to reserve any excess grains if the number of mandaps or temples is found to be fewer than expected. Proper records are to be maintained for audit purposes to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
