Workshop in Malaysia Highlights Welfare and Protection of Bangladeshi Migrant Workers

Kuala lumpur: A workshop titled ‘Work with Ease, Feel at Peace with Perkeso’ was held in Kuala Lumpur, emphasizing the welfare, safety, and social protection of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia. The event was organized by Malaysia’s government institution PERKESO, with support from the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, senior officials from PERKESO, representatives from the Bangladesh High Commission, and over 50 Bangladeshi migrant workers participated in the workshop. Director General of Bangladesh’s Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, discussed several welfare schemes for Bangladeshi workers, including financial support packages amounting to Taka 1.3 million and free ambulance services for the repatriation of deceased workers. He also commended PERKESO’s efforts in ensuring the wellbeing of migrant workers.



Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Mosammat Shahanara Monika, stated that the High Commission is collaborating closely with the Malaysian government to safeguard the welfare, protection, and workplace safety of Bangladeshi workers. She expressed optimism that such workshops would enhance awareness among workers by providing accurate information about their rights and entitlements.



PERKESO Deputy Chief Executive Edmund Cheng Ping Huang highlighted that the Malaysian government is executing various projects through PERKESO to foster a worker-friendly and safe environment. A video presentation during the event showcased PERKESO’s ‘Social Security Protection’ programme, detailing the benefits available to migrant workers and their responsibilities in accessing them.



In recognition of their cooperation, PERKESO presented crests of appreciation to the Director General of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board and the Bangladesh High Commission.
