Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today claimed that the Awami League’s rule has severely impacted the country’s economy over the past 15 years. “Recently, a highly renowned, world-famous newspaper in the UK published a report stating that 234 billion US dollars had been laundered from Bangladesh in the last 15 years. This is not a small amount. The money could have been used to build 100 Padma Bridges,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moyeen Khan made these remarks while addressing a discussion as the chief guest at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club. The event was organized by the Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals’ Council.

The senior BNP leader emphasized that democracy is a means to an end, saying, “We must remember that democracy is not our final objective. Our objective is something else, which we can achieve through democracy. In other words, democracy is our mechanism. Through this mechanism, we want to improve the living standards of the 180 million people of Bangladesh; that is our main goal.”

He further expressed a desire to create a social system where all citizens, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion, could live peacefully. President of the Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals’ Council M Wahiduzzaman presided over the event, which was attended by BNP leaders from various organizations.

Speakers at the discussion also drew attention to issues in the banking, insurance, and financial sectors, pointing to what they described as looting under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
