Nilphamari: The water level at the Dalia point of the Teesta river in Nilphamari district is nearing danger level due to an influx of water from upstream regions and hilly areas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Executive Engineer of the Dalia Water Development Board, Amitav Chowdhury, reported that low-lying areas and chars in 15 villages across Purba Chatnai, Pashchim Chatnai, Khoga Khoribari, and Goyabari unions under Dimla upazila have been inundated due to the overflowing Teesta river.
Chowdhury warned that the water level of the Teesta may rise further in the next 24 hours, potentially leading to more flooding in the district’s low-lying areas. He assured that his team is closely monitoring the situation and implementing preventive measures to protect flood-prone areas in Nilphamari district.
The region experienced a similar situation last month, when various low-lying and char areas were flooded due to the Teesta river overflowing. At that time, the Local office of the Water Development Board noted that the river was flowing 18 centimeters above the danger level.
