Chittagong: The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has announced a re-fixation of charges for its services, marking the first adjustment in nearly four decades. CPA Secretary Md Omar Faruk confirmed that the newly imposed tariffs have taken effect immediately.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the revision follows a notification issued by the CPA on Sunday, which aligns with the Ministry of Finance’s approval from July 24. The port authority has identified a total of 52 sectors for tariff charges, out of which new tariffs have been approved for 23 sectors.
Presently, the average charge per twenty-foot equivalent unit stands at Tk 11,849. With the implementation of the new rates, an additional Tk 4,395 per container will be charged, raising the average to Tk 16,243. Furthermore, container ships will incur separate charges that vary based on container type. The fees for imported containers will increase by Tk 5,720, while export containers will see an increment of Tk 3,045.
