Barishal: Shipping Adviser Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain today visited the ongoing renovation work at Barishal River Port. The visit included inspections of the Jail Canal, Fish Landing Center at Port Roads, and the Steamer Ghat of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Sakhawat, who also oversees the Ministry of Labour and Employment, addressed local journalists at the Circuit House auditorium. During his address, he highlighted a major project aimed at preventing river erosion in the Hijla and Mehendiganj upazilas, with an investment nearing Tk 850 crore, which is currently pending approval.
Dr Sakhawat assured that all development projects under the concerned ministry in Barishal are progressing as planned. He emphasized his personal commitment to expedite the completion of proposed, implemented, and ongoing projects across other ministries to ensure they are handed over promptly.
Accompanying Dr Sakhawat during the visit were BIWTC Chairman Salim Ullah, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kaisar, and Deputy Commissioner Delwar Hossain.
