Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today issued a ban on all rallies, processions, and gatherings around the residence of the Chief Justice, Judges Complex, Supreme Court, and International Crimes Tribunal until further notice, effective from Friday. This measure aims to prevent any disruptions in these sensitive areas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ban encompasses all forms of public assemblies, including meetings, rallies, mass gatherings, processions, human chains, and sit-in strikes. The restricted zones include the official residence of the Chief Justice, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, the main gate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, and the entrance gate of International Crimes Tribunal 1 and 2, as well as the Judicial Administration Training Institute building.
In a public notice signed by Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, the DMP invoked Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to enforce this restriction. The notice emphasized maintaining public order as the primary reason for the ban.
The DMP also urged all concerned to refrain from blocking roads for protests or demands, to avoid hindering traffic and disrupting daily life in the city.
