Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that the sole legitimate method to amend the constitution is through parliamentary processes. He stated that constitutional amendments should occur within parliament to prevent future disputes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin addressed these points as the chief guest at a discussion titled ‘Expectations and Challenges for a Fair Election’ at the CIRDAP Auditorium. The event was organized by the citizen platform Nagorik Coalition and saw participation from leaders of various political parties and societal representatives.
Salahuddin emphasized the importance of an independent Election Commission, judiciary, caretaker government, and free media as essential components for ensuring fair elections. He noted that despite moving away from fascism, there remains a lack of consensus on certain democratic issues, posing significant challenges. Additionally, he reiterated BNP’s commitment to establishing a state free from discrimination.
