Rajbari: Members of the law enforcement agencies have so far arrested seven people after analyzing video footage of the recent attack and vandalism at the shrine of Nurul Haque alias Nurul Pagla and torching his body in Rajbari.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder revealed this information at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the city. He stated that two of the arrestees are involved in local politics of the fascist Awami League, the party whose activities are currently banned in the country.
Majumder mentioned that the incident was reviewed at a high-level meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna to assess the law and order situation across the country. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.
He detailed that the investigation is focusing on four specific aspects: vandalism of police and administration's vehicles, destruction of the shrine, exhumation of the body from the grave, and torching the corpse. Among the arrestees, Kazi Arif alias Kazi Apu was directly identified as being involved in exhuming the body.
Additionally, two other arrestees, General Secretary of the Goaland Upazila Swechchhasebak League Hiru Mridha and President of the Ujanchar Union Chhatra League Masud Mridha, are involved in the politics of the local Awami League. Majumder stressed that the analysis of video footage is ongoing and anyone found to be involved will be brought to justice.
During the law and order review meeting, Chief Adviser and senior government officials were briefed on the progress of the case. Majumder reported that the local 'Iman-O-Akida Rokkha Committee' had held multiple meetings with district and upazila administrations, promising a peaceful protest, but later turned unruly. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the committee had any involvement in the incident.
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam commented on the movement of Palli Bidyut Samity officials, stating that while the government is tolerant of peaceful movements, any disruption to electricity supply or consumer services would result in strict government measures.
The press secretary noted that two committees have been established to address issues related to Palli Bidyut Samity, with actions already initiated based on their reports. The reinstatement process for transferred employees is underway, and suspension orders are under review.
Shafiqul Alam added that, according to intelligence agencies, anti-state elements are instigating the Palli Bidyut Samity movement, and the government is taking stern action against them. Therefore, there is no justification for officials to engage in a work abstention program.
