Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin is set to leave for Canada tonight to inaugurate the voter registration and National Identity Card (NID) issuance program for Bangladeshi expatriates living in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CEC's Private Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Alam confirmed that Nasir Uddin is scheduled to depart for Canada late at night. The official itinerary outlines that he will remain in Canada until September 12.
During his visit, the CEC will attend inaugural ceremonies of the voter registration and NID issuance program for Bangladeshi expatriates in Toronto and Ottawa. Furthermore, he will engage in multiple meetings with expatriate Bangladeshi citizens in both cities to discuss the registration process for expatriate voters, data verification procedures, and how they can cast their votes in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
A crucial aspect of the visit is to enhance awareness about voting rights among expatriates and ensure their active participation. The CEC aims to engage directly with Bangladeshi expatriates, offering insights into the ongoing activities and future plans of the Election Commission.
After completing his official engagements, the CEC plans to stay in Vancouver from September 13 to 15 for personal reasons, with a likely return home on September 18. Lalmonirhat District Election Officer Md. Lutful Kabir Sarker will accompany the CEC during the visit.
