Manikganj: Three individuals have been incarcerated for their involvement in the production of counterfeit National Identity Cards (NID) in Manikganj. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sohanur Rahman, 22, from Ghosta village in Putail Union of Manikganj Sadar upazila; Arif Hossain, 36, from Beutha village under Manikganj Pourashava; and Monir Hossain, 45, from Pashchim Uriajani village.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sohanur Rahman approached Arif Hossain and paid Tk. 16,000 to acquire a forged NID. Arif Hossain is alleged to have created the NID using counterfeit signatures, official seals, and the designation of the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Manikganj. Additionally, fake signatures and seals were utilized, purportedly belonging to the Manikganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), who currently serves as the Administrator of Putail Union Parishad.

Acting on confidential information, Sheikh Mejba-Ul Saberina, the UNO of Manikganj Sadar, executed a special operation at the Sadar upazila election office area on Tuesday at 11:00 am, which resulted in the apprehension of the three suspects. A case was subsequently filed at the Manikganj Sadar Police Station, and the detainees were handed over to the police. During the initial interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the allegations.

Officer-in-Charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station, SM Aman Ullah, confirmed that following due legal procedures, the accused were presented in court yesterday evening, whereupon they were remanded to custody.
