Bagerhat: The Department of Consumer Rights Protection on Wednesday sealed a factory producing adulterated cosmetics in the BSCIC industrial area of Bagerhat and fined its owner Tk 1.5 lakh. Sharifa Sultana, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Department in Bagerhat, led the operation with a joint forces team.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials revealed that the factory, which was only permitted to produce three specific items, was engaged in manufacturing several cosmetics without the necessary approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The plot, originally leased as a tin factory, had been sublet to cosmetics trader Mizanur Rahman. Rahman fled the scene during the raid, leaving behind two workers.

Md. Sharif Sardar, BSCIC Promotion Officer, stated that similar operations will continue to ensure the quality of products and to prevent adulteration in the future.
