Rangpur: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Moulana Abdul Halim expressed the need for a level playing field in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, scheduled for February next year. Speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organized by the Rangpur-Dinajpur regional Jamaat-e-Islami at the party’s Rangpur metropolitan office, he emphasized that a free, fair, and acceptable election is a demand of the people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moulana Abdul Halim highlighted the importance of adopting the PR system, backed by the legal validity of the July Charter, to ensure a fair and participatory election process. He stressed that the legal basis of the July Charter must be established before the elections to prevent issues such as nomination trading and vote theft, and to allow citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully.
He further stated that the new PR system should be based on the participation of all parties to pave the way for a new Bangladesh. He called for the implementation of the July Charter before any elections take place. Moulana Abdul Halim also addressed the 2024 revolution, which was achieved at a high cost, and accused the fallen autocratic group of conspiring to undermine it with the help of the Jatiya Party.
During his speech, he criticized the Jatiya Party’s role in the past 15 years, labeling it as a facilitator for the Awami League’s hold on power. He described the 2024 election as highly controversial due to the Jatiya Party’s cooperation and accused it of being the B-team of India and the Awami League. Moulana Abdul Halim assured that the participants of the July movement would resist such conspiracies and remain united against fascist plots.
He also condemned the attack on Gano Adhikar Parishad President VP Nurul Haque Nur, demanding exemplary punishment for the attackers. The meeting was attended by several key figures from Jamaat-e-Islami, including Central Working Committee Members Principal Moulana Mamtaz Uddin and Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal, and other regional leaders, along with district Ameers and Secretaries from eight districts of the Rangpur region.
