Rangpur: District unit of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) and its associate organisations held a protest march over attacking its president and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur and other leaders in Dhaka. The protest march was brought out from the Press Club, paraded through the important city streets, and ended at the same Press Club premises on Saturday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a rally followed the march where several key figures of the GOP shared their views. Hanif Khan Sajeeb, a member of the party's Higher Council, along with former convener of the district Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Imran Ahmed and Senior Joint General Secretary of the GOP district unit Abdul Jalil Ratan, addressed the gathering.
Hanif Khan Sajeeb emphasized that VP Nur is a symbol of courage in the country. He stated, "We strongly protest this. At the same time, a larger movement will be formed if action is not taken against the attackers." The speakers expressed strong disapproval of the attack on Nurul Haque Nur in the capital, labeling it as unacceptable.
They highlighted that the attack was not only on Nur but also on the spirit of the democratic movement against fascism that unified the nation during the historic July Uprising 2024. They urged the interim government to conduct a fair inquiry into the attack and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
