Rangpur: The Rangpur district Ganosamhati Andolon has strongly condemned the atrocious attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad president and a top leader of the July Uprising Nurul Haque Nur in the capital on Friday. In a joint statement, Touhidur Rahman, convener of the Rangpur district of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Mufakhkharul Islam Moon, member-secretary, today strongly condemned and protested against the attack on the leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad, including its president Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary Rashed Khan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, they stated that the attack on Nurul Haque Nur is unacceptable and constitutes a criminal offence. They expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for Nur and his leaders and called for immediate action against those involved in the incident. The statement emphasized that the attack was not only on Nur but also on the spirit of the democratic movement against fascism that united the nation during the historic July Uprising 2024 and the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability.
The leaders highlighted Nur as a steadfast advocate of democracy and justice and urged the interim government to conduct a comprehensive and fair inquiry into the attack, prioritizing the identification and prosecution of the perpetrators. They demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attacks on Nur and his party leaders and called for the banning of all fascist forces and their allies from politics in the new Bangladesh established through the July Uprising 2024.
