Dhaka: Speakers at a recent event in Dhaka have criticized global human rights educators for allegedly supporting violations by Israeli forces in Gaza, Palestine. This criticism was voiced during the 'Bengal Delta Conference 2025' held at the Intercontinental Hotel in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ibn Haldun University Professor Dr. Irfan Ahmad argued that the Western concept of human rights is failing in Gaza, suggesting that those promoting these ideals do not hesitate to violate them when it conflicts with their interests.
Former Malaysian Education Minister Professor Dr. Maszlee Bin Malik echoed these sentiments, labeling the situation in Gaza as a clear human rights violation. He noted the inconsistency in the stance of those who frequently advocate for human rights yet appear blind to the conditions in Gaza.
The event's speakers also highlighted the silence of influential countries on the Gaza issue as a troubling aspect of the modern world. Dhaka University Assistant Professor Dr. Shafi Md Mostafa moderated the discussion, which was titled 'Modernity and Religion: Interaction and Contestation'.
Other notable speakers included Lahore University Assistant Professor Dr. Maryam Wasif Khan, Arizona State University Teacher Dr. Yasmin Saikia, Kyung Hee University Professor Dr. Alex Taek-Gwang Lee, and Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr. Syed Nizar.
