Cabinet Division’s Probe Body Holds Public Hearing on Stone Looting Issue

Sylhet: The Cabinet Division’s probe body conducted a public hearing in the city on the stone looting incident of the Sada Pathor tourist area in Bholaganj, Companiganj upazila here today. After the public hearing from morning to afternoon at the Sylhet Circuit House, the committee’s convener and Cabinet Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) Zaheda Parveen stated that the public hearing mainly focused on two issues. One of them was whether the authorities were negligent in their duties or not, and the other was to prevent recurrence of such incidents.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inquiry committee formed by the Cabinet Division has received recommendations and opinions from various stakeholders on these two issues. Zaheda Parveen mentioned that the investigation report will be submitted after an overall review. She urged journalists to provide any information necessary for the investigation.



The hearing was attended by the divisional commissioner, officials of the district administration, upazila administration, police administration, and Department of Environment. Representatives of the environmental organizations, truck transport owners’ association, stone traders’ association, and journalist leaders also attended the hearing and shared their opinions with the investigation committee.



The high-level investigation committee formed by the Cabinet Division has started working in Sylhet since Tuesday. They initially inspected the Sada Pathor tourist spot. The probe body was formed on August 20.
