Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today emphasized the enduring impact of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poems and songs in inspiring the people during significant historical events, including the Liberation War and the mass uprising of students and the public in July-August 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rahman conveyed his message on the eve of the 49th death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam via his verified Facebook page. He expressed deep tributes and affection for the poet, praying for the eternal peace of his soul. Rahman highlighted Nazrul’s embodiment of rebellion and humanity, noting that although the poet explored various literary forms, his primary identity remained as a poet who fought against injustice.
Rahman reflected on Nazrul’s challenging early life and how it instilled in him an inherent resistance to injustice. He lauded Nazrul’s literary contributions, which continue to provide a pathway to liberation from exploitation and deprivation. Rahman attributed Nazrul’s status as a “rebel poet” to his relentless struggle against oppression.
The BNP Acting Chairman also acknowledged Nazrul’s role in sparking a literary renaissance in Bengali literature, asserting that his works continue to embolden those deprived of their rights to protest with courage. Rahman described Nazrul as an exemplar of human love, whose works inspire dedication to the welfare of others and foster a lasting love for one’s homeland.
