Dhaka: The Ministry of Food has announced a significant initiative aimed at providing affordable food to the nation's citizens. Starting from September 1, rice and wheat flour (atta) will be sold at subsidized rates across every upazila in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ministry's press release outlined that under this new scheme, one metric ton of wheat flour will be sold in each upazila, with the price set at Taka 24 per kilogram. This measure is part of a broader effort to stabilize commodity prices and make essential food items accessible to low-income groups.
The press release further detailed that this initiative would expand upon the existing Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice and wheat flour, which is currently available at subsidized rates in city corporations, densely populated districts, and district headquarters purasava. From September 1, the government plans to increase the availability of wheat flour by selling one metric ton per working day at upazila levels, ensuring that more people can benefit from the subsidized pricing at designated sales points.
