Dhaka: The government today approved separate proposals to procure 65,000 metric tons of fertilizer and to commence construction work on a 10,000 MT capacity buffer godown in Bhola. These initiatives aim to meet the rising demand for fertilizer in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were made during the 33rd meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year, presided over virtually by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. The Ministry of Agriculture submitted two proposals, enabling the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to procure fertilizers from international suppliers.
The BADC will acquire 25,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer from Groupe Chimique Tunisien, Tunisia, under a state-level agreement, at a cost of approximately Taka 184.66 crore. The price per ton of this fertilizer is set at $602.50. Additionally, BADC will obtain 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from OCP, NUTRICROPS, Morocco, under a similar agreement, costing around Taka 383.16 crore, with each ton priced at $781.33.
Further, the government approved a proposal from the Ministry of Food to construct a buffer godown in Bhola with a 10,000 metric tons capacity. This project, costing about Taka 49.49 crore, will be executed by M/S MBL-REL (JV), Dhaka, under the first revised project for building 34 buffer godowns across the country. These facilities will assist in the preservation and distribution of fertilizers.
In another development, the Power Division proposed that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) procure GT-2 maintenance work for the Shahzibazar 330 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant from SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Company Ltd, China, at a cost of Taka 111.18 crore.
Additionally, the meeting approved a proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division to print, bind, and supply approximately 3,62,91,207 textbooks for class 4 and 5 students for the academic year 2026, under 94 separate lots.
