Collective Efforts to Protect Human Rights Stressed

Rajshahi: Collective efforts of all government, non-government, and volunteer organizations concerned can be the best way of protecting human rights for ensuring a dignified life for the people. People of all levels should raise their voices for establishing their equal rights in society besides forging social resistance against the violators of human rights.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, social watchdogs and development activists came up with the observation while addressing a network meeting, where all the participants expressed their commitments to work together to attain the cherished goal, here today. In the meeting, a platform was formed to enhance interpersonal communication among the human rights activists working in the grassroots.



Barendra Unnayan Prochesta (BUP) organized the network meeting titled “Human Rights Defenders” at Safe Garden Restaurant in the city. With BUP Executive Director Foyzullah Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Development Shamsunnahar Khatun, Social Service Officer Abdul Momin, Executive Director of Rural Underprivileged Landless Farmers Organization Afzal Hossain, and Executive Director of Anagrasar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha Raj Kumar Shaon.



Members of civil society, social watchdogs, and pressure group members joined the meeting and took part in its open discussion, putting forward a set of recommendations on how to protect human rights. The speakers unanimously mentioned that establishing transparency and accountability in every sphere of life can be an effective means of ensuring human rights to all.



The human rights situation should be improved collectively, and the social watchdogs can play a vital role in this regard. The meeting was told that ensuring social justice and sustainable development of living and livelihood conditions of ethnically minority communities is needed. The ethnic communities should be given the rights to land, food, healthcare, education, and cultural opportunities. So, all the government and non-government entities concerned should come forward and work together to this end.
