BSF Hands Over 39 Detained Bangladeshis at Meherpur Frontier

Meherpur: Border Security Force (BSF) today handed over 39 Bangladeshi nationals who were detained in different Indian jails to Bangladesh authorities following a meeting at Gangni frontiers of Meherpur, officials said. They said an assistant commissioner for land led a Bangladeshi delegation comprising Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police representatives, while the Indian side was led by a BSF deputy commandant, and the meeting was followed by the repatriation process.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BGB’s 47 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel M Mahbub Murshed Rahman stated that their Indian paramilitary counterparts handed over the 39 individuals, which included 28 men, nine women, and two children. These individuals were detained in various Indian prisons primarily on charges of intrusion.



Rahman mentioned that Gangni Police Station has taken custody of the repatriated Bangladeshis to complete subsequent legal procedures. The detainees had been held in Indian prisons from 2022 to 2025. Officials noted that the meeting took place with the 11 BSF Battalion at border pillar no 147 at the Kazipur border outpost (BOP).
