Dhaka: The government has announced a reshuffle involving senior police officers, transferring 18 newly promoted additional inspectors general and supernumerary additional inspectors general. This move is aimed at reorganizing the senior levels within the police force.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the home ministry’s public security division released a statement detailing the transfer of 12 newly promoted additional IGPs and six deputy inspector generals (DIGs) to new assignments, with some officers receiving elevated ranks. The changes are to be implemented immediately.
The notification highlighted that 12 officers, currently holding the position of additional IGPs, were recently promoted, while the remaining were elevated to supernumerary additional IGPs and assigned new roles. Notably, Md Golam Rasul has been appointed as the chief of the Special Branch (SB), with other officers such as Md AKM Awlad Hossain, Md Akram Hossain, and Sardar Nurul Amin being transferred to police headquarters.
Other officers assuming new roles include Hasib Aziz, now serving as the police commissioner in Chattogram, and Gazi Jashim Uddin, who has been appointed as the chief of industrial police. Md Rezaul Karim will lead the police anti-terrorism unit, Md Mostafa Kamal will head the police bureau of investigation (PBI), Md Sibgat Ullah will be in charge of the criminal investigation department (CID), and Md Ali Hossain Fakir will oversee the armed police battalion (APBn).
Furthermore, officers taking on the role of deputy inspectors general (DIG) but with supernumerary additional IGP status include GZ Azizur Rahman in SB, Md Sarwar in DMP as additional police commissioner, Md Fazlul Karim at police headquarters, Rezaul Karim at police telecom, and Md Ahsan Habib Palash at police’s Chattogram Range.
