Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has reinstated 85 upazila/thana election officers who were dismissed in 2007. Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, signed a notification today following a Presidential order.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the notification stated that the reinstatement of these election officials was carried out in compliance with a judgment by the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division and a civil review appeal. The reinstated officers have been instructed to submit their joining letters directly to the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission or via e-mail by August 19. Failure to meet this deadline will be interpreted as a refusal to rejoin the service.
The notification further explained that the period from the dismissal date of September 3, 2007, to the date of reinstatement will be considered as extraordinary leave. The reinstated election officers will receive all outstanding salaries, benefits, and seniority in accordance with the court’s judgment.
