Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was admitted to United Hospital in the early hours after he fell sick at his Gulshan residence shortly after midnight.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul’s condition is now stable, but he remains under close observation. BNP Standing Committee member Professor AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed that Fakhrul is receiving treatment under the care of cardiologist Professor Mominuzzaman.

Earlier in the week, Fakhrul returned to Dhaka from Bangkok following a follow-up eye treatment. Despite his recent travels, he participated in a meeting of the BNP’s National Standing Committee at the party chairperson’s office. However, after returning to his residence from the meeting, he began feeling unwell and was subsequently taken to United Hospital for medical attention.
