Rangpur: National Citizens Party (NCP) Member-secretary Akhtar Hossen emphasized that the Jatiya Sangsad elections should occur only after necessary reforms and a constitutional amendment through Constituent Assembly elections. Speaking at a public rally in the Haragachh area of Kawnia upazila on Thursday afternoon, Hossen highlighted the importance of these reforms.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhtar Hossen pointed out that while many desire the Jatiya Sangsad elections to proceed without delays, essential reforms must not be overlooked. He stressed that the interim government should make decisions regarding these reforms to ensure elections take place at the appropriate time.
Hossen expressed confidence that the interim government could conduct elections within the existing timeframe if reforms are implemented first. He called for visible improvements in the judiciary, impartiality at the field level, and a level playing field for all parties involved.
He noted that discussions around necessary reforms in the constitution, judiciary, and administration have been ongoing in Bangladesh. Hossen stated that the NCP has quickly expanded nationwide and is actively working to make these reforms and justice tangible, including the Constituent Assembly elections.
Hossen also mentioned efforts to shape public opinion to support the government's implementation of reform programs. He believes that engaging the public in democratic movements is essential for progress.
The NCP Member-secretary emphasized the critical role of Constituent Assembly elections in establishing a constitutional structure when new political groups emerge and public aspirations shift. During his visit, Hossen distributed pamphlets on justice, reform, and election ideas and addressed street rallies in various areas within the Rangpur-4 constituency.
Joining him in these programs were first joint coordinator of the Rangpur Metropolitan NCP Alamgir Suman, Rangpur District Joint Coordinator NI Suman, along with other NCP leaders from the Rangpur district and metropolitan areas.
