59.7% of Country’s Total Land Dedicated to Agriculture: Land Secretary

Dhaka: Land Ministry Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed has revealed that 59.7 percent of the country’s total land is currently classified as agricultural land. He made this announcement during a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working Committee tasked with finalizing the draft of the proposed “Land Zoning and Agricultural Land Protection Ordinance, 2025,” held at the land ministry today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the senior secretary stressed the urgency of structured land use, highlighting that the country’s land is limited and valuable, necessitating its proper utilization. He provided additional insights into the country’s land distribution, noting that 17.4 percent is designated as forest land, while 20 percent falls under the classification of wetland.



He emphasized the importance of the Land Zoning and Agricultural Land Protection Ordinance, stating that it is essential for securing the country’s future food needs.
