Chattogram: City Mayor Dr. Shahadat has announced an ambitious initiative to plant one million trees across Chattogram, aiming to enhance environmental protection efforts and establish a greener urban landscape.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat revealed this plan during the inauguration of a week-long tree fair organized by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) at Laldighi Maidan. The fair, which includes 61 stalls featuring a variety of trees, is set to continue until August 19. The mayor highlighted the initiative's goal to foster a clean and green environment, particularly for the benefit of children.
During his address, Dr. Shahadat expressed appreciation for the student participation in the event, underscoring the vital role of trees in the ecosystem. He emphasized tree planting as a commendable action and motivated students to engage actively in such activities. Reflecting on Bangladesh's historical abundance of forests, he called for united efforts to combat deforestation and nurture a sustainable urban environment.
Dr. Shahadat also advised students on proper waste disposal and personal hygiene, linking these practices to their overall well-being. His remarks stressed the importance of cooperation and dedication among the youth to achieve these environmental goals.
The event saw attendance from key figures, including Sheikh Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of CCC, along with other high-ranking officials, departmental and branch heads, and students from multiple schools.
