Malaysia Extends Warm Welcome to Chief Adviser Prof Yunus

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia rolled out the red carpet for Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus upon his arrival here today on a three-day state visit. Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail received the chief adviser at the airport, where Prof Yunus was also given a guard of honour.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder confirmed that Prof Yunus arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 7:50 pm local time on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. The delegation departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka earlier in the day at about 2 pm.



Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters on Sunday about the focus of the visit, stating that migration and investment issues will be prioritized. During the tour, Prof Yunus will participate in a business conference on August 12 and will be conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on August 13.



Prof Yunus is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on August 12 in Putrajaya. Following the meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the two countries. In total, five MoUs and three notes of exchange are expected to be signed during this visit. Additionally, Prof Yunus plans to engage in a view-exchange meeting with Bangladeshi expatriates.



Accompanying the Chief Adviser is a high-level delegation, which includes Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.



Prof Yunus is expected to return home on August 13.
