Rangpur: Highway Police Rangpur Region Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariqul Islam has stressed that raising awareness among school students is crucial in preventing road accidents on highways. “The Highway Police hopes that raising awareness among school students will play an effective role in preventing road accidents in the future,” he stated during an awareness workshop at Shothibari Multilateral High School.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop was conducted near the highway under Barodorga Highway Police Station of the Rangpur region, with SP Islam serving as the main discussant. The event, presided over by the Headmaster of Shothibari High School, Shree Harendranath Saha, witnessed participation from over 350 students, teachers, and the Officer-in-Charge of Barodorga Highway Police Station, Md Omar Faruk.
During the workshop, Highway Police SP Islam delivered a PowerPoint presentation covering the causes of road accidents, traffic rules, and the social and economic repercussions of road mishaps. He also highlighted the significant role students can play in accident prevention. The session was interactive, with students engaging actively despite the scorching heat. SP Islam addressed several questions from the students on various road safety topics.
SP Islam further mentioned that the Highway Police has initiated a public awareness program targeting important educational institutions in the Rangpur Region. The program aims to educate school-level students to reduce and prevent road accidents effectively.
