Dhaka: The Ministry of Railways has formed an investigation committee to verify the specifications of 30 meter gauge locomotive purchases for Bangladesh Railway (BR). The committee will verify the draft specifications prepared, taking into account the performance of locomotives and components, modern technology, energy efficiency, availability of spare parts, international acceptance, usability in the environment of Bangladesh, and other factors. They are expected to submit a report to the ministry within the next 15 working days.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and Railways Ministry, Dr. Sheik Moinuddin, has been appointed as the convener of the committee, with BR’s additional director general serving as the member secretary. The committee also includes the BR director general, the managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), and a professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
The committee has the authority to co-opt additional members if deemed necessary. This initiative is part of the broader project titled ‘Conversion of Chattogram-Dohazari meter gauge railway into dual gauge railway,’ which is currently being implemented by Bangladesh Railway. BR has already prepared draft specifications for this procurement process.
