Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that a bounty will soon be declared for information leading to the recovery of firearms stolen after August 5 last year. Approximately 700 firearms are still unaccounted for, and the government is taking steps to retrieve them ahead of the national election scheduled for February.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement came after a core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry. Jahangir stated that an internal committee will be formed to determine the bounty amount, and a circular will be issued within two to four days. This initiative is part of a broader effort to secure the environment before the upcoming national elections.

Jahangir emphasized that the Home Ministry is committed to organizing a smooth election amidst concerns about law and order. Bangladesh Ansar and VDP members are expected to play a crucial role, with each presiding officer receiving an armed Ansar personnel for security. Additionally, body-worn cameras will provide real-time updates from polling stations. Jahangir assured that no anarchy would occur during the elections, expressing confidence in conducting a fair and peaceful electoral process.
