Rangpur: Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic road accident at the Barodorga overpass on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Pirganj upazila. The victims were identified as the driver of a covered van and his assistant, who were traveling from Gazipur to Rangpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident took place at noon when the van collided with a stationary heavy vehicle that was deployed for highway renovation work. The impact was so severe that the front part of the van was completely twisted, resulting in the immediate death of both the driver and his assistant.
The deceased were identified as Bayezid Ahmed, 20, the driver and son of Israfil Sheikh from Ulusara village in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur district, and Mushfiqur Rahman, 22, the assistant and son of Sohel Bepari from Paiksha village in Nawabganj police station of Dhaka district.
Md Omar Faruk, the Officer-in-Charge of Barodorga Highway Police Station, stated that the damaged van is now in police custody. An official case regarding the accident has been filed with Pirganj Police Station in Rangpur, further investigations are underway.
