Cumilla: The July Uprising Day was observed in Cumilla through programmes organized by the district administration and different political and socio-cultural organizations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration arranged discussion meetings, receptions for martyr families and July fighters, cultural events, and a victory rally to mark the day.
The day's events began with a tribute to martyr Masum Miah, as wreaths were placed on his grave in the city's North Rampur area. A discussion and reception programme for the families of martyrs and July fighters followed at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaysar presided over the function, which was addressed by Cumilla Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu, Cumilla Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Kazi Din Mohammad, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The event concluded with the honoring of the families of martyrs and July fighters.
A cultural programme showcased performances by local artistes. Earlier, Cumilla Metropolitan Unit Chhatra Shibir organized a colourful victory rally, which traversed various streets of the city and ended at Pubali Chattar. The rally featured speeches by Cumilla Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir President Hasan Ahmed, Secretary Nazmul Panchayat, Organizational Secretary Aqib Abdullah, and Victoria College Branch Chhatra Shibir President Monir Hossain.
In the afternoon, several organizations, including district and metropolitan units of BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Sramik Dal, also held discussion meetings and organized victory rallies.
