Dhaka: Germany today joined the international community in commemorating the one-year anniversary of Bangladesh’s historic student-led mass uprising, calling the day “both a moment of remembrance and reflection as well as one of looking ahead.”

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the German Embassy in Dhaka described August 5 as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s history and expressed solidarity with the people of the country in their pursuit of a democratic future. The statement emphasized Germany’s ongoing commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s democratic transition.

The German Embassy reaffirmed its commitment by stating, “On this important day, the German Embassy stands with the people of Bangladesh.” The statement further underscored Berlin’s pledge to support Bangladesh’s aspirations for a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic society that upholds the rule of law, justice, and dignity for all citizens.

The expression of support from Germany resonates with similar messages from other European nations, including the United Kingdom, France, and the European Union. These countries have also issued public statements recognizing the sacrifices made during the 2024 mass movement and have reaffirmed their support for the reforms being pursued under the interim government.
