New delhi: The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday marked the July Uprising Day, which culminated in the fall of Sheikh Hasina's autocratic government on August 5, 2024. The observance began with the reading of messages from President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus emphasized that the sacrifices made during the uprising would be significant only if Bangladesh transforms into a "truly public welfare state." The program featured screenings of two documentaries highlighting the events of the July uprising.
Dr. Nabila Idris, a commissioner of the Commission of Enquiry on Enforced Disappearances, contributed a pre-recorded video message, sharing her experiences in supporting the student protestors on the frontlines. Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India, M Riaz Hamidullah, described the July Uprising as a 'completely spontaneous' movement that set a new vision for the country.
Faisal Mahmud, Minister (Press) at the High Commission, also addressed the audience during the event. Held at the Mission's Maitri Hall, the event was attended by Bangladeshi students from various educational institutions in India.
