Dhaka: A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner today became the first aircraft to use the Passenger Boarding Bridge and Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) at HSIA’s new Terminal 3, marking a key operational milestone. The aircraft, operating as Flight BG-356 from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome, was commanded by Captain Ishtiaque Hossain, with First Officer Tahsin as co-pilot, according to a message shared by Biman here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the trial operation, which took place between 10:30am and 1:00pm following the disembarkation of passengers, included comprehensive testing of multiple systems at Terminal 3. These included the VDGS, boarding bridge-mounted external power and air-conditioning systems, and water supply connectivity to the aircraft, Biman said.

Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob, Member (Operations and Planning) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), was present on the occasion. “This marks a critical step forward in enhancing the operational readiness and service capabilities of Terminal 3,” CAAB officials said.

The Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) is a modern technology that assists pilots in precisely parking aircraft at the designated gates. It provides real-time visual cues, thereby reducing dependency on ground staff and minimizing the risk of misalignment or accidental collisions with ground equipment.
