Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member and head of the party’s Consensus Commission delegation, Salahuddin Ahmed, announced today that the BNP is prepared to sign the July Charter at any moment, underscoring that all processes must be conducted through elected representatives. He shared these insights during an informal interaction with journalists at his residence in Gulshan.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin Ahmed elaborated on discussions surrounding the July Charter, meetings with the Consensus Commission, and the proclamation of the July Declaration. He detailed that 19 principal issues from six reform commissions were deliberated within the Consensus Commission. The BNP granted its approval to seven of these issues while agreeing in principle to the remaining 12.

Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that the draft of the July National Charter has been distributed to all political parties, with the BNP having responded with certain amendments as of July 30. Addressing accusations of the BNP’s lack of cooperation in the implementation of the July Charter, he asserted that the party has offered maximum cooperation.

He called on all parties to uphold anti-fascist unity, emphasizing the historical and political importance of the July Declaration. High-level BNP sources indicated that three BNP leaders are anticipated to attend a government event planned at Manik Mia Avenue on Tuesday (August 5). Additionally, two more members of the Standing Committee, led by party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, are expected to participate in the event.
