Dhaka: The National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) today discharged one more burn victim in the Milestone fighter jet crash while 32 others, two with critical injuries, are still receiving treatment in the facility.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Director of NIBPS Professor Mohammad Nasir Uddin announced at a news briefing this afternoon that Farzana Yasmin, a 45-year-old teacher from the Milestone School and College, was discharged as her condition improved. This brings the total number of discharged burn victims to five.
Professor Uddin stated that 14 out of the 32 survivors currently undergoing treatment are showing signs of improvement, while others have stable conditions. However, two patients remain in critical condition in the ICU, and one has been moved to a high dependency unit following health improvements. Seven patients are reported to be in serious condition, with the others receiving treatment in the general ward and cabin facilities. Notably, there have been no new deaths in the past three days.
Since the tragic jet crash, a total of 156 surgeries, both minor and major, have been conducted. Resident Surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed that medical teams from Singapore, China, and Bangladesh held a meeting to review each patient's health condition and determine treatment protocols. It was also confirmed that the Indian medical team has departed the country.
According to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, the incident, which occurred on July 21 when an air force fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in Uttara, resulted in the deaths of 34 individuals, mostly students.
