Barishal: Health officials today announced the recording of 393 new cases of dengue infections, resulting in at least one death over the past 24 hours, with the majority of cases emerging from the southwestern Barishal region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that during this period, 101 patients were hospitalized in the Barishal division, which has been hit hardest by the mosquito-borne disease. The DGHS statement further detailed that 64 cases were reported in the Chattogram division, 52 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 60 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 46 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Additionally, 26 cases were reported in Khulna division, one in Mymensingh division, 38 in Rajshahi division, and five in Rangpur Division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has reported a total of 79 deaths and 20,316 cases of the disease. The DGHS also noted that 364 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country after recovering from the infection.
In comparison, last year's dengue outbreak claimed 575 lives and affected 101,214 individuals in Bangladesh.
